Designing your perfect bespoke wedding dress in Christchurch.

A bespoke wedding dress is a collaborative journey between your vision and our expertise. Here in Christchurch, we create personalised, custom gowns through six distinct phases — here's what each one looks like.

Step 1 · The consultation

The process begins with a one-hour consultation focused entirely on your vision. Before you arrive, you'll send through inspiration images, which we compile into a Pinterest board. During the appointment we talk through the design elements and details you love, and build the excitement for the bespoke journey ahead.

Step 2 · From your vision to a drawn reality

After the consultation, we create three or more unique designs, each with a detailed description and a comprehensive quote. The quote accounts for the hours required for pattern-making, cutting, sewing and alterations. A 50% deposit secures your chosen design.

Step 3 · Made to fit you

Once the deposit is received, the final design is confirmed. Your measurements become the blueprint for a custom pattern, drafted and cut to match your body's specific shape.

Step 4 · Crafting uniqueness

A mock dress is made so we can see the initial silhouette and check the fit. This stage lets us modify the design based on how the garment feels, and it's when we select your fabric — presenting swatches aligned with your vision, or working with fabric you bring to us.

Step 5 · Unveiling perfection

The first fitting in your chosen fabric allows for final adjustments to beading, lace and appliqué placement. Most brides attend three to five fittings, depending on the complexity of the style. At the final fitting, bring your shoes, accessories and chosen undergarments so we can test everything together.

Step 6 · Collecting your gown

The final fitting is a celebration — bring the people closest to you. The remaining balance is invoiced before this fitting, with payment due before collection. Then your one-of-a-kind gown is yours.

Good to know

Gowns start at $3,500 excluding fabric (fabric from around $300), and we usually need 6–8 months to create one. Every gown is designed, cut and sewn by Sarah in her Christchurch studio — and all alterations to achieve the perfect fit are included.

Bespoke questions, answered

Are alterations included? Yes — all alterations to ensure a perfect fit are included in the cost and process.

Is the gown sewn locally? Yes. Every gown is designed, cut and sewn by Sarah in her studio in Sydenham, Christchurch.

Can I change the design if I'm not happy? Yes — changes are possible right up until the final dress is cut, and usually happen at the mock stage.

Could you copy a gown I found online? No, we don't copy — but we can take inspiration and adapt it, changing details and mixing features to make something that's truly yours.

How many appointments and fittings? Usually two appointments and four to eight fittings, including the consultation, measurements, mock and final garment.
