Bridal fitting tips
- Make an appointment early. Book your fitting well in advance. This gives us time for any larger alterations that need extra fabric, lace or beading. As there are only two of us, we can take on a limited number of dresses, so booking is essential.
- Choose the right undergarments. What you wear underneath dramatically changes how your dress fits. Wear the same style you plan to wear on the day — including tape and nipple covers.
- Limit what you bring. Bring only the essentials — your shoes and any special undergarments — so we can focus purely on fit and alterations.
- Be open to suggestions. We've worked on many gowns; we may suggest adjustments you hadn't considered that lift the whole look.
- Trust the process. Most brides have a minimum of two fittings, some up to eight. Sometimes pieces aren't sewn down or finished yet — that's completely normal.
- Mention the veil. If you'd like a bespoke veil, tell us at this point and try some samples, so we can make it in time for your next fitting.
What happens during your fitting?
- Dress try-on. We help you into your gown and pay close attention to how it feels and fits — especially the bust, waist and hips.
- Initial adjustments. We discuss the alterations needed — taking in the sides, bringing in the waist, adjusting straps. The hem is only done once everything else is right.
- Visuals. We pin or mark the areas to change so you can see how the modifications improve the look.
- Timeline. Alterations don't happen overnight. We explain the timeline, factoring in your wedding date and any body changes along the way.
- Follow-up visits. You'll usually need several fittings. For follow-ups you'll need your shoes, and we'll send a booking link so you can choose a time that suits.
How much do alterations cost?
Costs vary with the complexity of the adjustments and the dress itself. We advise setting aside between $350 and $550 for most alterations — but we always quote before any changes are made, so you feel comfortable with the cost. Your wedding dress is a reflection of your style and a significant part of your day; quality alterations are worth it.
Embrace the experience
Bring support — a close friend or family member whose opinion you trust (we recommend no more than four people). Stay relaxed, take a deep breath if you're nervous, and celebrate the progress: every fitting brings you one step closer to your day.
Bring your pieces
Your undergarments, shoes and veil at each fitting keep everything moving in the right direction — and help us make sure it all looks as perfect as possible.
We're your partner through this journey, and we can't wait to meet you.
