There is a real difference between pearls applied to a finished gown and pearls placed as part of designing it. Placed by hand, they can be concentrated where you want the eye to travel and thinned where you do not — so the pattern flatters your proportions rather than a mannequin's.
It is slow work, and it is the reason no two versions of this gown are ever quite identical.
